They’re basically in charge of engaging my ears, while my hands and eyes are busy creating. FLiPm: You just had a ‘solo’ show this January, 2017… how did you feel leading up to that? Kate: While there’s no doubt a perfect gif somewhere that would best summarize, let’s suffice it to say that I was geeked. Stoked. SO excited. Freakin’ peed my pants. Kept brown paper bags on me at all times for the hyperventilation. Meditated to stave off the all out panic attacks. Wondering if you smelled toast too?? I couldn’t feel my arm. Maybe you should go ahead and dial 911. Ok thanks. FLiPm: Who is your favorite onscreen actor and actress, and why? Kate: My favorite actress is Julianne Moore, in pretty much anything she does, because she’s effervescent and pure magic. My favorite actor is Cate Blanchett, also in anything, but okay, playing Bob Dylan if you really want to adhere to this whole weird cis gender bias thing?Wevs. FLiPm: Do you have a favorite, or are you at least influ- enced by any one particular artist when you paint? He in turn wasinfluencedbyoneofmyartheroes,ArtNouveautitan Alfons Mucha, and the pair were apparently great friends. (Feel free to insert any shock-eyed,WHAT emoji that suits the occasion here.) My surface decoration approach has always been sparked by Gustav Klimt, and my constant attempts at desaturation were aided and abetted by the graphite work of Adhonna Khare. I love the mind blowing intricacy of the pencil work of Mexican artist Kikyz1313. There are so many more favorites I wish I were even more directly influenced by: JohnWentz. Kate Zambrano. João Ruas. Henrik Aarrestad Uldalen. Brian Mashburn. Robert Craig. Jason Shawn Alexander. Deirdre Sullivan-Beeman. Stella Im Hultberg. Amy Sol. Audrey Kawasaki. Jeez, this list could really go on and on …
